WiFi Light Painting

This is a brilliant new project from Elastic Space, exploring the invisible terrain of WiFi networks amongst urban spaces.

The process includes moving throughout a WiFi network complete with a four-metre measuring rod holding 80 points of light. The strength of the network is then shown by the strength and number of lights turned on. This process is then photographed using a light-painting technique, the whole process has been put together to form this brilliant video above.

“The city is filled with an invisible landscape of networks that is becoming an interwoven part of daily life. WiFi networks and increasingly sophisticated mobile phones are starting to influence how urban environments are experienced and understood. We want to explore and reveal what the immaterial terrain of WiFi looks like and how it relates to the city.”
